Latest news from North Yorkshire County Council regarding the ongoing closure of the A59.
A temporary drainage solution is to be installed within the slope above Kex Gill to allow the road to be reopened safely. It is envisaged that the closure will remain in place until the end of Feb 2016. The ongoing diversions through Pool/ Otley/Ilkley will continue until then.
Meanwhile, a lone walker takes advantage of an empty road.
Thanks to the Wharfedale Observer:
‘A trio of Wharfedale artists are celebrating having the quality of their work officially recognised. Pool-in-Wharfedale Art Group’s Artist of the Year Awards saw Pool resident Sandra Furniss – whose husband, Stuart won the previous year – named the overall winner for 2015.
The group’s Otley-based teacher, Pam Barker, awarded second place to pastel artist Joanne Emsley, from Appletree Studios in Huby. Third place, meanwhile, went to watercolour artist Marion Dewison, from Pool.
Pool Art Group meets from 10am to noon at Pool Methodist Church each Friday.’

If you are not aware already, North Yorkshire County Council have advised us that they have an unstable hillside at Kexgill between Harrogate and Skipton requiring urgent closure of the A59 due to the risk of landslide on to the carriageway. The diverted traffic as on previous occasions involving this route will pass through our area using the A65 from Ilkley to the A660 at Dyneley Arms then on the A658 through Pool in Wharfedale to the A61 roundabout joining the Harrogate bypass.
